Futuristic designer Issey Miyake has mastered the technique of creating sculptural works of art in cloth. His innovative pattern cutting and signature use of micro pleating give his garments a unique form. As one of the earliest designers to take on this style of fashion, Miyake is held in high regard as a pioneer of these creative, out-of-this-world fashions. From the Issey Miyake Spring 2008 collection, this beautiful Avant Garde dress is done in a silver-grey pleated fabric. The dress presents a playful and sophisticated aesthetic throughout as the fabric is arranged in tiers of vertical fin-like folds that extend from the bust to the asymmetric hem of the skirt, creating sinuous columns that give this dress a unique visual movement of its own. The horizontal seams of the tiers are fitted with elastic throughout, providing extra stretch while highlighting the fascinating sculptural qualities of this dress. The fitted dress begins with a simple gathered neckline and incredible angular sleeves that fan outward from the shoulders in pleated arcs.
