About the Item
Jacques Heim is inextricably linked with the history of French fashion. In the years 1958-1962 he was the president of the highly influential Paris Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture (the central body overseeing French Haute Couture). A period which also coincided with the world of Parisian couture shifting to the new world of ready to wear.
Although he is not as well known as Dior and exhibited none of the flamboyance or temperament of Yves Saint Laurent he was an innovator who created designs that are smart, eclectic and of many styles yet always luxurious and elegant.
Collaborating with the highly influential artist Sonia Delaunay began in 1925 and continued until the 1960s
This suede and leather jacket is an unique example of Jacques Heim fashion design and Delaunay artwork .
Made from a simple structure that acts like a blank canvas to display Delaunay ‘s modernist collage of contrasting colours made of suede and leather panels.
The juxtaposing of these different shades enhances the linear effect and carries a sense of movement and direction breathing life into the jacket even before someone puts it on.
This jacket is a technical feast in the way each of the 12 panels are joined together to construct the piece.
The solid white of the front and back leather panels unite the saffron and black layers into a delightful design.
Paired with the saffron belt, the interplay of surface texture enhanced the sculpted silhouette.
The jacket is fully lined with a gold colour satin material.
