New Taj of India Olive Brocade Japanese Geta Heel Platform Slipper– 5.5 M, 1960s

About the Item

Considered extremely rare luxury items in the mid-century, Taj of India shoes were produced to promote cultural exchange between India and the United States during the spreading threat of Communism. Featuring hand-loomed silk uppers, gold mylar soles and brass heels in novel shapes, they were intended to be worn indoors only and were reserved for women of means. They were the exclusive brand worn by Barbara Eden in “I Dream of Jeannie” and are featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This model—in the same size worn by Eden—features a silk brocade chrysanthemum motif upper, bright orange insole and Japanese Geta heel. Olive silk brocade pump with gold, silver and slate blue chrysanthemum motif; bright orange insole and slightly upturned toe. Slick black mylar sole and brass Japanese geta heel.
