About the Item

“Tailor of the stars” and a darling of the Cinecittà Studios, Emilio Federico Schubert created incomparable garments that celebrated La Dolce Vita before it had the name. Though Valentino and Roberto Capucci were among his students, he remains one of the unsung heroes of Italian fashion. The majority of his work is housed at The Met or the University of Parma, and few pieces ever reach the consumer market; this rare ensemble is from his 1960s boutique near the Spanish Steps, christened “Rome’s Fifth Basilica” by American shoppers. Three-piece dress suit including sleeveless cocktail dress, bead and sequin jacket and matching belt. Sleeveless dress features heavyweight ribbed silk fabric, peg skirt silhouette and rear center vent; rear zipper closure with top hook and eye. Matching jacket features band collar, lightly padded shoulders and cutaway front; sequin epaulets with 6” beaded fringe front and back. Open construction with no closures of any kind.
