About the Item
An incredibly chic and hard-to-find Geoffrey Beene cherry print silk crepe jumpsuit dating back to the early 1990's. Geoffrey Beene's body-contoured designs were marvels of cut and proportion. There is an exhibition of his work currently running this year at the Phoenix Art Museum titled "MOVE: The Modern Cut of Geoffrey Beene". Through the exhibition it is explained, "Beene was a fashion rebel who ignored trends, instead preferring to design garments that began as geometric shapes and evolved into silhouettes that moved naturally with the human form."
With this jumpsuit, Geoffrey Beene explores strategies of suggestion and concealing the body through the use of pattern placement. He chooses an absolutely gorgeous large scale cherry print mixed with ivory in the same silk crepe fabric. By manipulating color. he created what looks to be a strapless bikini top curved low in the back. He molds the ivory fabric close to the body with lean, long zipper-wrist sleeves. The figure flattering pant legs have couture style sculpting and hidden pockets. The completed look is pure design genius that decades later still reads so modern. A very rare collector's piece from one of America's greatest designers.
