About the Item

Once upon a time, this charming boater style hat had a sweet secret ... it was a novelty candy container box produced by Loft's Candies of New York. Loft's was founded in 1860 and by the 1920's was the world's largest candy seller in the world. The 'hat' lifts up from the striped band to reveal a hidden compartment. The body is made with cardboard and is covered in an embossed paper that gives it the appearance of a straw weave. The striped band is accented with a foil Loft's label. It is the size of an actual hat and even has a lined rim for realistic detail. It would be a fun piece to add to an Americana collection. CONDITION The hat is in fair condition with some age related staining to the surface. There are flaws to the crown with a dent as shown in photograph 11 and broken seam as shown in photograph 12. It is not too bad considering the age and delicate materials. MEASUREMENTS The hat measures a total of 13" long x 11.75" wide x 3.75" tall.
