About the Item

1950’s black top handle fabric handbag embellished with black beading and spectacular gilt metal hardware. The handbag is missing the label though it appears to be a Roberta di Camerino design. Giuliana Coen's, aka Roberta di Camerino, rise in the fashion world of post WWII Italy with her trompe l'oeil carpetbag and clothing creations is a wonderful story in fashion history. Her designs are like precious baubles often fabricated with unique hardware and clever details. The hardware on this bag is detailed with a swag design and operates somewhat like a door knocker with a hinge and clips to keep it securely closed. The interior is lined with a cherry red satin and sports an open side pocket that shows evidence of an adhesive discoloration that once secured the label (please see photograph 7). The handbag is a beautiful vintage accessory that would compliment any wardrobe. CONDITION The handbag is in good vintage condition with some wear to the fabric and some missing beads as shown in photographs 10 and 11. The interior is clean except for the aforementioned discoloration from a label. MEASUREMENTS The body of the handbag measures 10” at the widest x 7.75” tall x 2” deep. The handle measures 14.5” from end to end providing for a 7” drop. The bag is large enough for some cell phones, including 6” x 3” or smaller, but probably not much more.
