About the Item

Vivian Alexander, inspired by carl Faberge, has created a line of artistic objects that are often compared to the most famous of all decorated eggs. Using modern materials and superior workmanship, Vivian Alexander transforms natural eggs into shimmering works of art. This signed piece if fashioned entirely by hand in supervision of the designer. Their techniques enhance the individual beauty of each egg, as no two are exactly alike in shape or size. Each piece is created from an infertile, untreated rhea or emu eggshell. These shells are naturally quite hard and durable and will withstand proper use. They should, however, be handled like other fine jewelry or china. These shells were once used as canteens to carry water across the deserts of the Southern hemisphere. These beautiful objets d' art of uncommon distinctness. They feature intricate designs formed with the finest Austrian crystals and exquisitely colored genuine semi-precious cabochon gemstones. Many styles are gilded with 23 karat gold leaf from Western Germany, the highest quality gold leave available. Vivian Alexander has adapted the technique made famous by Faberge' called en plein, the all-over smooth enameling of a large area. Also used is plique-a'-jour, an involved enameling technique similar to cloisonne' that imparts a stained glass effect to the surface. Faberge' used enameling materials that required intense heat to fuse the leaded glass to the base metal. Vivian Alexander, using modern technology, has replicated the deep translucent colors of fired enamel. The guilloche' used so effectively in the originals is achieved by painstaking hand application of gold or silver mica into the liquid enamel prior to baking and hardening. The interior is beautifully hand finished and lined wiwth sand washed silk from the Orient, with an inner lining of heavy felt. Included is a matching silk coin purse with a cloisonne' egg pull. In addition, this piece is fitted with a detachable gold mesh shoulder strap that transforms this art object into a dazzling minaudiere for the most elegant of evenings. Every work of art is numbered, catalogued and signed by the designer and bears the hallmark of Vivian Alexander engraved on the bezel. Each design is produced in limited editions of fifty. A personalized Certificate of Authenticity is included and sent to the owner upon receipt of the registration form provided in the brochure that comes with the box.
