Chinese Nephrite Jade Archaistic Covered Vase, Qing Dynasty

About the Item

This archaistic style lidded vase or censer is a lovely piece of jade. It consists of a flattened baluster body and figural handles with hanging rings. The front and back body are carved with archaistic masks and the lid is a carved figural of a lion. The urn body and ringed handles were carved from one piece of nephrite and while the body and lid are a light celadon tone, the neck and handles are closer to white in colour in some lighting. The urn has a fine texture and is glossy in appearance, and while the body of the urn is opaque, the lid and handles are more translucent. This lovely piece is 3.63 x 2.25 x 1 cm and is marked "Li". This hand carved archaistic jade urn is from the estate of widely travelled gentleman who was an avid collector of fine quality objet-d'art, including various Asian antiques.
