About the Item

This is an old Japanese artillery shell. From its appearance, it is assumed that it is an iron shell for artillery. Considering the size, shape, and rusty condition of this iron ball, it is highly likely that it is an iron ball shell (or simulated shell) for old artillery used in the late Meiji to early Showa period (1900s-1920s). It is about the size of the palm of one's hand with a hefty weight. The iron has rusted and weathered over time, and its surface is etched with the memories of a bygone era. The colors of the rust are like an abstract picture painted by nature, showing various expressions depending on the angle of view. The irregularities and distortions on the surface also have a unique presence as “accidental beauty” that cannot be created by human hands. Part of a weapon fired into the distance by the power of gunpowder, it was a destructive force on the battlefield. This single mass, however, is no longer a weapon, but a “testament” to history and time. Quietly but surely, it is an item of high documentary value that conveys the past of Japan to the present. In the modern age, it is appreciated for its form and texture, and is enjoyed as an excellent object from an artistic point of view. Inorganic, yet deeply emotional, the presence of this object will give a unique sense of tension and serenity to a space. Facing history, accepting the passage of time, and continuing to exist, it is imbued with the spirit of “wabi sabi” (the Japanese words for “quiet and quiet”). Please feel free to incorporate it into your space. Weight: 2.7 kg _____________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
