Shigaraki is a historic kiln located in Shiga prefecture, Japan. It is said to have originated around the 8th century. There are 6 kilns with a long history in Japan, It is one of them. This is a medium-sized jar from the middle to late Muromachi period (around 1450 to 1573). As a feature of this era -The feature is that the part with the largest diameter is at the top of the main body. · The top part is round and ring-shaped · There are two loops on the shoulder Another characteristic of Shigaraki ware is that it has many feldspars. Small grains can be seen on the surface of the jar, which is feldspar. Feldspar is also a pebble that looks like it breaks the epidermis of the jar. This jar is well characterized. And above all, the best thing about this jar is that it looks beautiful. The appearance of the jar changes greatly depending on the temperature of the kiln and the amount of heat. This is powerful because various color gradations appear. 360 degrees, there is no same expression at any angle. I think it is an excellent work even in a Shigaraki jar. But this has been damaged once. It may have been cracked when it was excavated and repaired at that time, or it may have been dropped and broken by someone in the past. The parts with red circles and red lines in the image are the parts that have been repaired. There is a hole in the blue circle. Perhaps it was a feldspar that had fallen out and had a hole. However, the repair is very good. If you do not look closely, you will not notice the repaired part. If you put water in it, it will leak from the bottom, so if you want to decorate the flowers, put water in another container and put it in the jar. It is difficult to get such a wonderful thing even in Japan. It's very rare. Highly recommended!
