Thai Bronze Buddha Head from the 9th/10th C, Museum Piece 8346
About the Item
Very early Thai bronze Buddha head from the 9th/10thC. It has a sensitivity and finesse not often found in such early SE Asian sculptures. It is very large for a bronze head from this early period and quite heavy. The Buddha was probably standing and probably originally stood 12 to 15 inches high. It has a strong burial patina, as can be seen in the photos. Head measures 4 inches tall and 5 7/8 inches tall on its custom base. I've owned this piece since 1987, and this was the first expensive piece I purchased when I began collecting seriously.
