Chinese Tongzhi Porcelain Vase Decorated in Polychrome Enamels with Bronze Mount

About the Item

This exquisite polychrome Chinese vase has been mounted with bronze mounts and has previously been in two private collections. The vase dates to the reign of Chinese Emperor Tongzhi (1856-1875) who was a part of the lengthy Qing Dynasty and had a very short reign, dying at age 18. The vase is decorated in brightly coloured polychrome enamels and has later been retrofitted with a fine-quality French bronze mount. To the top bronze rim of the vase is a phoenix or pheasant rendered in bronze with its tail hanging down to one side. The underside of the vase has several labels including one indicating it was part of the 'Schoenberg J Antwerp Collection' and another for the 'Ray Manhattans Collection'. There is a red wax seal indicating that it has been authenticated before export from China. An exceptionally fine piece of Qing Dynasty Chinese porcelain with bronze mounts and in superb condition for its age. Measures - 43cm H
