Japanese Fine Antique Handmade Free-Form Cachepot, Signed and Boxed

About

A fine antique: signed, and boxed A superb Japanese handmade, hand glazed cachepot or flower bowl handcrafted in a beautiful glazed green, cream, black and white ceramic organic floral patterns. This is accompanied by a wonderful original old signed tomobako wooden collector storage box. Fine Classic Oribe kiln decoration. Artisan signed and comes complete with a signed Hinoki wood tomobako collector box. This one dates to the late Meiji period, 1900 Dimensions: 4.25 inches high and 6 inches diameter. Notice the superb crackled glazing. Signed base and accompanied by its original hinoki wood tomobako box. Provenance: Old Shigaraki collection. History of Oribe wares: Oribe ware, invented in Japan in 1605, introduced vivid patterns and colours to previously somber, monochromatic ceramics tradition. Oribe ware vessels were used primarily for serving food and drinking tea. The glossy black or brilliant green glazes and varied patterns made them a shimmering addition to 17th-century dining trays and tearooms. The new aesthetic of the irregular, popularized by Oribe, went beyond the tea bowl. Dishes for serving food were flattened, irregular shapes that could not be made on a wheel and were instead made over a mold. They were also designed with geometric patterns. Oribe ware is most identifiable for its use of green copper glaze and bold painted designs.   Lifetime guarantee of authenticity: All of our Asian works of art come with our Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee.
