About

Gorgeous and wonderful large antique Chinese Rose Medallion charger, platter, or chop plate with an unusual medallion design of birds and floral only, without the village scenes. Qing dynasty circa 1850-1890 and in fabulous antique condition with no chips, cracks or chiggers. This fabulous Qing dynasty antique Chinese hand-painted porcelain Rose Medallion charger has an unique medallion design with four panels of floral and bird scenes with a floral central medallion and no village scenes at all. It has an unmarked bottom which dates its origin to prior to 1890 and after circa 1850, since this style of Chinese porcelain was first made in the mid-1800s to satisfy the export demand from Europe and later the United States. This platter has an interesting provenance. It was owned by the man who was the Chief Medical Officer at the Panama Canal during the first half of the 20th century where and when these were obtained. I’m told they were friends with and entertained young Ike and Mamie Eisenhower. So possibly Ike was served from this chop plate! Whether actual or not, this platter is wonderfully beautiful and fine; and, it’s a delightful story! I know you want this awesome piece. Or maybe you need two. We just happen to have a second listed as well of a slightly larger size and different more traditional design. Platter size: Diameter: 14 inches Depth: 2.25 inches Weight: 4 pounds Boxed size: Height: 22 inches Width: 22 inches Depth: 10 inches Weight: 10 pounds.
