Large Chinese Calabash Blue and White Vase

About the Item

An antique Chinese blue and white calabash vase. The vase is hand painted with the 'dragon chasing the flaming pearl' motif. Far from the fearsome representation of the dragon in Western Art, in Chinese iconography, the dragon is seen as a benevolent creature who treasures the pearl as an object of great value. Chinese, c. 1950, possibly earlier.
