19th Century Chinese Hand-Carved Yumu Wood Armchair with Painted Scenes
About the Item
A Chinese hand-carved yumu wood accent yoke back chair from the 19th century, with rattan seat, painted scenes and dark brown lacquered finish. This 19th century Chinese chair features a rectangular back topped with a slightly arched rail. Our eye is immediately drawn to the beautifully carved splat, accented with painted scenes of a bird and a landscape, along with delicately carved scrolled motifs on the sides. Two open arms showcasing a curving shape and strengthened by carved supports with floral motifs, flank a rectangular rattan seat. The chair is raised on a four straight legs, connected to one another through side stretchers of varying height, and accented by a discreet carved skirt on three sides. With its delicate painted scenes, elegant lines and dark brown lacquered finish, this 19th century Chinese armchair will bring an exotic touch to any home, whether placed in a living room or bedroom.
