19th Century Chinese Red Lacquer Cabinet with Gilded Butterflies
About the Item
Beautifully painted Chinese red lacquered cabinet with gilded butterflies. Hand crafted and hand painted from the Shanxi province of north China during the early 18th century. The wood used is Yumu (northern elm). The butterflies are painted with Miao Ji the term used in Chinese and means to trace or outline in gold. The front of the cabinet is bordered with black lacquer and again with gilded butterflies. The top and sided is finished with a dark brown oxblood color.
