Antique Chinese Qing Dynasty Console Alter Table Carved 3/4" Crystal Top

About the Item

Available from Shogun's Gallery in Portland, Oregon for over 40 years specializing in Asian Arts & Antiques. This is a 19th century antique Chinese alter table or console from the Qing dynasty. All five drawers are beautifully hand carved with a Phoenix motif in Yumu - Northern Chinese elm a high quality wood highly regarded in Chinese furniture making. The clear lacquer finish sets off the wood grain nicely. The custom made 3/4" thick crystal (not just glass!) top was hand etched by the nationally known Portland artist Christina Amri. This comes out of her personal collection. A truly rare find! Height = 34.25" Width = 41.5" Depth = 13" Etched Crystal: 45" x 15.5" x 3/4" It remains in fine antique condition and should serve one well for another century of use. A great piece of Chinese history and an interesting and very solid and functional piece of furniture. Please note any other items shows as examples in the photos are not included in this listing.

This console table was made during the late Qing Dynasty (19 century) in Beijing under direct imperial control. It is very unique because you can't see more of this carved lacquer furniture survived from those period. The workmanship is superb. It is very rare that there is no too much similar furniture in existence, probably because it was too labor-intensive even for the court to mass produce.
