Arts and Crafts oak dresser by Heal & Son

About the Item

A beautiful early Arts and Crafts "Cottage" oak dresser, two drawers above two cupboards with an upper section with curved shaped front apron and shelf above, brass ring pull handles. Drawer stamped Heal & Son. This is an early oak dresser designed by Ambrose Heal for the firm of Heal's London Circa 1900. The simple plain design is typical of Ambrose's early furniture designs influenced by the pioneers of the Arts and Crafts Movement such as M.H. Baillie -Scott, C.F.A Voysey and Ernest Gimson. Sir Ambrose Heal designed for his fathers firm from about 1897 through to the 1930's, he became chairman of Heal's on the death of his father in 1913 going on to be a hugh influence in design through-out the first half of the 20th century. In 1933, he was Knighted for raising standards of design. The top section can be removed for transit.
