Arts & Crafts oak armchair with close-nailed original leather upholstery Sweeping curved arms and arching back legs Carved Celtic style fret work design Arthur Simpson of Kendal Circa 1910 Height 98cm Width 72cm Depth 90cm £7850 Provenance ; Barbara Henderson, niece of Arthur Simpson by descent to previous owner. ARTHUR SIMPSON 1857 -1922 Simpson established is workshops in Kendal, his training and apprenticeship was with Gillows of Lancaster predominantly as a carver. He used high quality locally sourced timber for his designs, which were widely acclaimed. He exhibited alongside C.F.A Voysey and George Walton, accepted commissions from Voysey also Blackwell for Baillie Scott.
