Central Asian antique wooden box/Early 20th century/assembled wooden box

About the Item

Introducing furniture with a very attractive taste. This is furniture made in surrounding countries in Central Asia. The location is likely to be Tibet, Afghanistan, or Pakistan. This was a box used by nomads to store clothing and other items, and was also used as practical furniture. The carved parts depict animals and people, and are thought to be traditional patterns. This costume box is assembled so that it can be moved. It consists of multiple parts and can be assembled in about 10 minutes once you get used to it. The weight is 56.8 kg. As well as its solid appearance, it is quite heavy. In addition, Tibetan people sometimes repurpose some old furniture into other furniture. This wooden box also has a decorative section that looks as if it started in the middle of a piece of furniture. It is thought that this piece was probably cut out from another piece of furniture and repurposed. A beautiful spirit of caring for things is alive and well. As for the condition of the item, since it was used as practical furniture, the wood has warped, shaved, and damaged over the long years. For those who are interested, the characteristic parts are listed below. When viewed from the front, it is tilted slightly diagonally. This is due to the warp and habit of the wood. However, there are no problems with opening and closing the top lid, and the wooden box is not in any danger of being disassembled. By driving in the wedges on both sides, it becomes a sturdy wooden box. There is a warp on the top plate. There is also a hole on the left side for driving a wedge, but since part of the wood was missing, an iron nail was used instead. The bottom part on both sides is scraped, so there is some wobbling at the front and back, but you won't notice any wobbling unless you shake it strongly back and forth. If you are concerned about this, you can put a rubber plate between them to eliminate the wobbling. This was owned by a Japanese collector, and in my many years of purchasing, I have almost never seen furniture similar to this in Japan. The Serizawa Keisuke Arts and Crafts Museum in Japan had a piece of furniture similar to this, so we have included a photo of it as a reference. The furniture was made in Afghanistan. This is a very rare item that is difficult to obtain. I think it would be very cool to have it in the living room. Shipping When shipping, the item will be sent in pieces. You can assemble it if you have a rubber mallet. It can be assembled by one person, but it is easier to assemble by two people. SIZE W147 (158cm including the wedge part) D49.7 H72(cm)
