Chinese Low Kang Table, c. 1850

About the Item

This elegant 19th century low table would have traditionally been placed atop a platform kang bed and used as a convenient working surface for painting, writing, sewing, or arranging food. Set atop C-curved legs ending in slightly scrolled feet, the low waisted table features a beaded apron carved with an auspicious ruyi, a reference to the "fungus of immortality" and a symbol of longevity.
