Chinese Ming Style High Back Chair, Red Lacquer

About the Item

They are commonly referred to as 'Deng Gua Yi', which means lamp. The backrest of these chairs is reminiscent of the construction from which two lanterns were hung. This seat, sometimes referred to as a "yoke rest," belonged to the more affluent classes. The armchair is around 1850 and in very good condition. The paint has a beautiful patina and is nice to touch. The armchair is ideal as an eye-catcher in a boring corner or in the bedroom to throw your clothes on.
