Late 19th Century Door Panels with Carving and Latticework
About the Item
Late 19th century double-width door panels from Zhejiang province, China. The framework and plain bottom panels are made of Fir wood, while the latticework portion is made of Elm wood.
Overall these doors have a simple design but the highlight is really the carvings in the middle section. The relief carvings here were carved from Camphor wood, and have very beautiful, detailed and lively depictions of animals, flowers, curios and auspicious objects. The through carvings on top feature the hornless dragon.
Double width doors are also more unusual nowadays, it is harder to come across this type of doors compared to the usual width.
The door panels are in their original colour, with some light damage along the edges, which is consistent with its age and usage.
