Pair 19th Century Indian Throne Chairs

About the Item

This is an extraordinary pair of Indian Throne or elaborate antique Ceremonial Chairs. The chairs are composed of pairs of fully carved lions supporting the wide seats whose backs incorporate carved peacocks surmounted by crowns. The scrolling lion tails and the lion heads form the arm rests. At one point, the chairs were painted in bright colors which have now degraded, forming a wonderful deep natural patina. The chairs retain all of their original elements, but they have had some older restorations. The chairs are very sturdy and ready for another 100+ years. (We have cushions for the chairs which we are including as a courtesy and which can be reupholstered in the buyer's fabric) ***Please contact MJH Design Arts for very competitive shipping quotes to the South and East Coast.

Each chair is hand-carved from the finest rootwood and further lacquered creating a rich dark color on the exterior of the wood. The seating areas are finished with comfortable white cushions and they are ready to be used in any decor. A similarly designed rootwood table...
