Pair of Horseshoe Back Chairs - mid 19th Century

About the Item

A pair of 19th Century Horseshoe Back Armchairs The armrests are composed of three separate pieces joined together by half-lap joints locked with pressure pegs set an an angle. The long narrow flanges, fitted to both sides of the front and back posts, are decorative and also add support to the armrest. The background is decorated with a Buddhist swastika and is tenoned into the seat frame, The seat frame is constructed of standard mitered, mortise and tenon joints. The seat is woven cane. The legs are strengthened by simple cusped aprons on the front. Width of the seat is 23 inches - width of the arms is 24.5 inches.
