Pair of Stunning circa 1800 Chinese Bamboo Primitive Occasional Chairs His & Her

About the Item

We are delighted to offer this lovely original pair of circa 1800 primitive Chinese bamboo framed occasional chairs A very rare and highly decorative pair of bamboo framed chairs, this are very primitive and naively made as was the style of the day. The chairs have a wonderful patination and are basically art furniture now Condition wise, they have been deep cleaned, hand condition waxed and hand polished, they are really for display only now however my warehouse chap has gone over them with a million clamps and lots of wood glue so the joints are as strong as they can be Smaller “Her’s” chair dimensions Height:- 63cm Width:- 50cm Depth:- 43cm Seat height:- 37.5cm larger “His” chair dimensions Height:- 72cm Width:- 49cm Depth:- 40cm Seat height:- 46cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Pulborough warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

In the case of this Yuanyi, or round chair, the flowing crestrail is a direct descendant of the simple armrests that had traditionally supported individuals on mats in their homes. This homage to an ancestral form, combined with traditional mortise-and-Tenon joinery techniques, created an elegant, functional chair that has endured for centuries and inspired many contemporary furniture designers...
