Pepper Chair

About the Item

This is a unique piece because is is made of wood salvaged from a local Brazilian pepper tree. Because the trees are rarely affected by disease or storms, the wood is in short supply. The unusual grain pattern is due to the lumber cracking as it dries. The final step in creating these chairs involves the process of filling the cracks with epoxy mixed with pepperwood sawdust before final sanding, thus revealing these amazing patterns unlike any other material. The style pays homage to mid-century design through the use of sustainable materials thereby reducing the chairs carbon footprint. This chair is available in other locally salvaged woods, each of which has its own unique qualities. This particular chair was featured in a 2015 museum show at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park
