A very well made good looking and decorative piece, this is pure art furniture and it looks expensive important and stylish from any angle, the gilt finish and lacquer work is sublime, this really is a very special piece
I have copied the details from the V&A, here's what they say
Black lacquered furniture painted in gold had been produced at Canton since the 16th century. It was inspired by Japanese lacquer, and much furniture in this style was produced in Canton for export to Europe from about 1720. This chair may therefore have been made in one of the Canton workshops. The surface decoration, the vertical back and the very wide seat are typical features of Qing dynasty (1644-1911) lacquered furniture.
This piece is in excellent condition throughout with a lovely honest patina.
