Yumu Chinese 19th Century Side Chair with Dark Lacquered Finish and Cartouche

About the Item

A yumu wood 19th century Chinese side chair with dark lacquered finish and carved cartouche. This Chinese side chair features a rectangular straight back, adorned with a rounded molding on the outside, framing a central carved cartouche. The sinuous lines of the outer molding are ingeniously repeated on the inside, gently leading our eye to the central cartouche. The curvy lines of this upper section are perfectly contrasted with the general linearity of the base. A rectangular planked wooden seat is indeed raised on four straight legs accented with a delicately carved apron on all sides, and connected to one another through an H-form cross stretcher. With its graceful lines and dark lacquered finish, this 19th century Chinese accent side chair will bring a discreet touch of elegance to any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom, office or mudroom.
