About the Item
A Rare Negoro Lacquer Buddhist Stand
This rare and historic Negoro lacquer Buddhist stand is a beautiful example of Japanese craftsmanship. It is made of wood with Negoro-style lacquer and gilded copper fittings.
The Negoro lacquer technique is a centuries-old Japanese art form that originated in the Negoro temple complex in Wakayama Prefecture. The lacquer is applied in multiple layers and then polished to a high gloss. The copper fittings are gilded with gold leaf.
This stand is in very good condition considering its significant age. There are some expected abrasions due to its age and usage, but overall it is in excellent condition. One metal fitting is missing.
The stand is approximately 22.4 x 12.6 x 10.6 inches in size and weighs 6.6 pounds. It is in fair condition with some minor abrasions and joint cracks due to its age.
This stand is a rare and valuable piece of Japanese history and culture. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
