Rare Japanese Lacquered Katana Stand – Tashi Kake, Meiji Period (19th Century)

About the Item

Japanese Lacquered Katana Stand – Tashi Kake, Meiji Period (19th Century) Rare Tashi Kake from Japan, an elegant vertical stand for a katana, crafted in fully lacquered wood. This Meiji period (1868–1912) katana holder features refined Japanese lacquer work. The background is finished in nashiji lacquer, adorned with delicate fundame-lacquered sparrows, a typical motif. The base is decorated with irises by a bridge over a stream, inspired by the Rimpa school, executed in takamakie with mother-of-pearl inlay over a nashiji ground. The piece is in very good condition, with only minimal signs of use. This Tashi Kake / Katana holder is dismountable in two different parts.
