About the Item

This is an ancient Japanese Buddhist implement called an "orin." An orin is a metal Buddhist implement used in Buddhist altars and temples. Its clear tone purifies the space, dispels evil thoughts, and conveys prayers and offerings to Buddha and ancestors. A type of Buddhist instrument, it is used as a signal during sutra recitation, to mark breaks in chanting, or during morning and evening prayers. Its sound is said to reach the Pure Land. The origin and purpose of the orin is that it was created as an instrument to produce a sound similar to the mournful cries of birds following the death of Buddha. It is believed to have been used during the Edo or Meiji period. The exterior is uneven and worn, giving it a refined appearance that reflects the patina of aging. Its simple yet beautiful silhouette adds a touch of wabi-sabi aesthetic to any space, even when displayed as an ornament. Weight: 1.5kg
