Pair of Chinese Provincial Elm and Lacquer Late 19th Century Stands
$1,950per set

About
This pair of Chinese provincial elm stands, circa 1890-1900. Probably at one time completely covered in lacquer the wood has been exposed in areas creating an interesting contrast of surfaces. They are made with a single drawer and can be used as pedestals or stands. The color and patina is rich and mellow to the darker reflective lacquer areas while the wood is warm and soft. The drawers center on simple brass ring pulls. Each stand is made in the traditional Chinese method of joinery and can be broken down, further each is very slightly different reflecting that they were made by hand. Of note throughout small areas of worming can be seen attesting to age and use.
