An exceptional, fine, large and impressive Chinese Export silver mug; an addition to our oriental silverware collection This exceptional and large antique Chinese Export silver mug has a tapering cylindrical form. The surface of this mug is embellished with chased decoration depicting Asian figures amidst a classic oriental village setting, performing chores and meditating in prayer. The ornamentation to the mug incorporates an applied shield shaped cartouche ornamented with the contemporary engraved inscription 'Chefoo Races 1893, Aubrey N Beauclerk, Winner of five races (including Champions) on "Bunkum", "Rag", "Bobtail" from M. Boyd Beedon'. The upper and lower portions of the mug are encircled with plain applied moulded decoration. This large Chinese silver mug is fitted with a very impressive cast and applied handle realistically modelled in the form of a three dimensional dragon, with splayed legs in junction with the body. This large ornamental handle is embellished with cast details reproducing the dragon's scales, whiskers and anatomical features.
