Chinese Hardstone, Cloisonne Enamel and Lacquer Screen

About

Dedicated craftsmanship in traditional techniques, combined with refined simplicity in design, makes this antique Chinese screen a truly special piece. Built from hardwood and decorated with lacquer, hardstones, enamels, and paint, the screen is a luxurious piece of Chinese furniture-making. Each of the screen's six panels contains a central lacquered plaque, which is mounted with cut and coloured hardstones in the form of objects, vases, and animals. Some of the panels are also mounted with cloisonne enamel depictions of vases, beautifully and intricately completed in a range of coloured enamels. The reverse of the screen is decorated with a landscape scene which has been painted on lacquer. The top and bottom of each panel are further decorated with intricate wood carvings which take the form of geometric patterns, Chinese characters and tied ribbons. Open: height 190cm, width 222cm, depth 3cm Closed: height 190cm, width 37cm, depth 18cm
