Remarkable late 19th century Meiji period Japanese four panel byobu screen featuring the flowering grasses of autumn: Chinese bellflower, bush clover, and ominaeshi (Patrinia Scabiosifolia). The painting has a dramatic silver leaf square ground with a desirable aged patina. Made in the Nihonga School style and set in a lacquered wood frame with a wide silk brocade border. The flowering grasses have vivid color and stand out against the metallic silver ground. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
