Japanese Scroll, Chikubu Shima ‘Chikubu Island’

About the Item

Chikubu is an island in Lake Biwa, Shiga prefecture. This painting depicts a tori gate leading to a temple, and in the background is Kyoto and the Higashiyama Hills. Mineral pigments on silk mounted on silk border. Beautifully mounted, good condition. Signature reads: Kawai Goykudo. Comes in original wooden box. Japan, early 20th century. Overall dimensions: 49 3/4" H x 26 1/4" W, image size: 13" H x 21" W.
