Toko Shinoda Signed Large Limited Edition Japanese Lithograph Transparent Shadow

About the Item

Exquisite in design and execution. This work, titled "Transparent Shadow", is by Japanese master artist/printmaker Toko Shinoda (1913-2021) who is universally recognized for her merging of traditional Japanese calligraphy with modern abstract expressionism and use of Sumi ink. This print, which features her traditionally black Sumi ink with a dash of red color and is printed on creamy ecru paper, is hand-signed in pencil, titled, and numbered (5 /28) by the artist. It is a relatively large work compared to many of her sized prints. As it is from a very limited and small edition the work is apparently quite scarce and rare. Would be a great addition to any collectors of Shinoda's work or Japanese or Asian art or print collection or an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting. Sure to draw attention. Shinoda's works can be found in numerous private collections and international museums including: Albright–Knox Art Gallery, NY Art Institute of Chicago British Museum, London UK Brooklyn Museum, NY Cincinnati Art Museum, OH Hakodate Museum of Art, Hokkaido Harvard Art Museums Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo, Netherlands Lehigh University Art Galleries Luxembourg Royal Collection Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), New York Museum fuer Ostasiatische Kunst, Berlin Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Gifu Museum Folkwang, Essen Museum of Modern Art in New York, NY Museum of Modern Art, Toyama National Gallery of Victoria National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo National Museum of Singapore Niigata City Art Museum Singapore Art Museum Stadtisches Museum den Haag Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC Solomon R. • Junichiro Sekino Signed Japanese Limited Edition Woodblock Print Aquarium
    By Junichiro Sekino
    Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully composed and richly colored, limited edition woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Junichiro Sekino. This print, which is titled "Aquarium", is signed and sealed/ stamped in red at the lower right. We believe this was created in 1956 although it could have been made in 1946 (there are some conflicting dates on this image but we assume 1956 is correct) and comes from a limited edition of 50 prints (the exact number of this particular print and date/year is likely listed in pencil below the matt but we have not removed the print from the frame to confirm the exact number/year). The very image is widely considered by many Sekino critics and scholars to be one of Sekino's masterpieces. It is an exquisite and rare/hard-to-find work. Junichiro Sekino was largely considered, along with Kiyoshi Saito, to be one of Japan's paramount 20th century master print artists. Both were prominent leaders of the Sosaku Hanga movement. Sekino's works can be found in many museums including: The Museum of Modern Art, N. Y., the Art Institute Chicago, the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, the British Museum, and the Portland Art Museum among many other Fine museums throughout the world. Would be a fantastic addition to any modern Japanese print...
