Tokoyuni III Kunisada Japanese Woodblock Print Sumo Match Shiranui vs Jimmaku
About the Item
A beautifully composed and richly colored woodblock print by renowned Japanese artist Tokoyuni III (AKA Utagawa Kunisada 1786-1864) titled "Shiranui vs Jimmaku" features a match between two fierce Sumo wrestlers with referee Shikimori Yojin (to the left) with the seated referee Hidenoyama (to the right) - both colorfully clad in traditional clothing (Mawashi). The excitement and intensity is palpable.
This is a later printing of an original triptych work done in the mid-1800s by Tokoyuni III.
From an impressive collection of Japanese artworks and prints (of which we will be listing other prints).
Would be a great addition to any Japanese art or print collection or an eye-catching stand-alone accent piece once framed.
