Antique Chinese Ruby Red Glass Overlay Snuff Bottle Bird Jadeite Top c.1900

About the Item

This late Qing to early Republic period snuff bottle is a fine example of ruby red glass overlay on clear glass ground, showcasing the esteemed glasswork techniques of the era. The bottle is in a compressed globular form, a shape that is both pleasing to hold and view. Each side of the bottle features a meticulously carved scene of a bird perched in a tree, a motif rich in symbolism and often associated with the harmony of nature and the joy of living. The carving is executed in ruby red overlay, creating a striking contrast against the clear glass ground, making the imagery vibrant and dynamic. The bottle is raised on a footring, which is also adorned with a ruby red overlay border, adding continuity and elegance to the design. Completing the piece is a pale green flattened cylindrical jadeite stopper, which not only complements the ruby red overlay but also adds a touch of luxury and refinement. circa: 1900-1920, late Qing Dynasty to early Republic of China ROC period
