A Rare and Beautiful Edo Period Horagai Conch Shell Trumpet. This rare and beautiful Horagai conch shell trumpet is a stunning example of Japanese craftsmanship. It is dated to the Edo period, 18th century, and is in fine original condition with expected abrasions due to its age. The bronze mouthpiece is in good condition. It measures 37 x 20 x 14 cm (14.5 x 7.8 x 5.5 inches) and weighs 1.4kg (3.3lb). The Horagai is a traditional Japanese trumpet made from a conch shell. It was used by samurai and other warriors to signal orders and rally troops. The trumpet has a long and rich history and is still used in traditional Japanese ceremonies.
