The wooden base is khatam inlaid micro mosaic.
It is solid and in very good condition for age.
Nice Moorish decorative item on desk top.
Khatam is a Persian version of marquetry, art forms made by decorating the surface of wooden articles with delicate pieces of wood, metal and other natural substances precisely-cut geometrical shapes.
