A 19th century Chinese miniature carved giltwood figure group circa 1890
About the Item
This remarkable miniature Chinese/Cantonese carved hardwood and gold leaf figure group depicts a group of five scholars, two of them holding a large object while the other three are watching and examining whilst standing under pine trees on rocky ground. This beautiful fine hand carved figure group has a superb three dimensional quality where the artist Carver has used great skill in creating the depth of different layers with figures standing behind the front group all perfectly carved with fine detailing and finished with red lacquer and gold leaf. This lovely tactile object is in very good condition with some light wear to the gold leaf.
