Antique Primitive Indonesian Lesung Mortar Sculpture

About the Item

For your consideration is this primitive Indonesian lesung mortar which has been mounted with two steel, leg-like rods onto a black wooden rectangular base. The lesung mortar is a traditional, now archaic, tool used to hull rice. It is constructed of solid, most likely teak, wood whose surface shows a beautiful aged patina throughout. At 37.75" tall and weighing over 42 pounds, it has strong presence in any room. This example dates from the early part of the 20th century.
