Antique Wood Panel from Kandahar

About the Item

O/3270 - Antique Teak wood panel from a temple in Kandahar (Afghanistan). This panel was bought by a traveler 50 years ago. Sadly now Kandahar is no longer a city for women since the Taliban arrived. This panel can be used at the top of a library or a door. Its price is interesting.

    This unique teak carved panel depicts Dayak Tribal mythology. The Dayak people are some hundreds of various native groups found in the interior rainforests of Borneo. This carving depicts the tree of life, which the Dayak people believe exists on “Linden Tarung”, a mythical rock island where they believe humans first came to existence. “Linden Tarung” is the ancient and ancestral home of the Dayak peoples.
