Large Mandalay Style Gilt Bronze Reclining Buddha Sculpture on Black Marble Base
About the Item
Antique Mandalay Style Gilt Bronze Sculpture of Reclining Buddha on a Heavy Solid Rectangular Profiled Black Marble Base.
The reclining Buddha is draped in a robe with highly detailed forged folds of fabric, and leaving the right shoulder exposed, his head supported by his right hand, his serene face featuring a meditative expression. The downcast eyes are in contemplation, has smiling lips, elongated ears and curled hairdress decorated with colored glass
Buddha sculptures in reclining position are symbolic of Mahaparinirvana, which means that the Buddha passes into Nirvana and finally leaves this world.
Gilt bronze.
