These exquisite embroideries, meticulously preserved since the 1970s, originate from the Kutch region of Gujarat in India. According to historical accounts, Kutch embroidery is believed to have been introduced by the 'Kathi' cattle breeders, who were brought by the legendary figure 'Karma' from the Mahabharata. Over time, these nomads settled down and honed their needlework skills, giving rise to an art form that transcended generations, passed down from mothers to daughters. The hallmark of this vibrant embroidery lies in the enchanting use of small mirrors, known as "able," sewn into the designs, creating a captivating play of colors. The architectural motifs and designs found in the Kutch region have a significant influence on the embroidery. These embroidered textiles are traditionally used for festive occasions and adornment of deities, often featuring animals and figures depicting Indian Gods and Goddesses.
