1960-1970’s MCM to Modern Andirons or Firedogs Solid Brass Wave Scroll or S Shap

About the Item

Handsome vintage MCM or Mid-Century Modern to Modern Andirons or Firedogs comprised of solid brass wave, scroll, or S shaped. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. They have been polished and they have a new extreme lacquer finish; however, there are still some age-related dings & scratches giving them the perfect vintage patina. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960-1970’s. Is there anything better than snuggling up with your sweetie in front of a fireplace, listening to the crackling of the fire while the warm hues of the flames caress your face? Only if the fire logs are burning brazenly upon these FABULOUS andirons!! They are comprised of solid brass, so they are pretty heavy, and they have an S, scroll, or wave shape to their bodies. They are distinctive with a mid-century modern to Modern style that will be gorgeous used with almost any design edict you have or desire. Some call them andirons while others call them firedogs. They are both correct as they are basically the same thing which are metal supports used in pairs in a fireplace to hold burning logs. The andirons hold the logs above the ground to allow the air to circulate around the fire. They are a simple, yet STUNNING design you are sure to love for years to come. So, basically, it comes down to this… If you dream of crisp autumn nights with a crackling, warm, and welcoming fire… these are the perfect andirons to help make that dream a reality. He began his love for furniture early and while attending high school he took a part-time job in a used furniture store and was inspired to try his hand at drawing ideas for furniture. Probber sold his first sofa design when he was just 16, for $10. After high school graduation, he accepted a job as designer for Trade Upholstery which was a small manufacturing facility. Probber established Harvey Probber, Inc., in 1945 and in the mid years of the twentieth century, Harvey Probber became one of America's leading designers. He favored exotic woods, highly polished lacquer, hand-rubbed finishes, and extravagant upholstery fabrics. In little over a decade, Harvey Probber, Inc. became one of the country’s leading contemporary furniture firms. His most significant design breakthrough was his modular seating concept. It was the first of its kind. He also introduced the “sling chair” and “nuclear furniture” which could be clustered and had interchangeable pieces. By the 1970s, Harvey Probber, Inc. had opened trade showrooms in major design centers across the country. His work was awarded two "Best of Neocon" Gold Awards from the Resources Council of the Institute of Business Designers for the Houston Chair...
